This year marks the 120th anniversary of the death of Lefkadios Hearn, a figure whose legacy continues to bridge the cultures of Lefkada and Japan. In honor of his memory, the Municipality of Lefkada is hosting a special three-day tribute that will once again unite the two peoples through a celebration of Japanese tradition and art.

Lefcadio Hearn: A Symbol Uniting Lefkada and Japan Once Again

The tribute will feature the renowned Japanese traditional art group “Pheonix,” bringing the rich cultural heritage of Japan to the island.

Event Schedule:

  • Thursday, September 26th at 20:00
    The festivities will kick off with a lively parade by the “Pheonix” group through Lefkada’s Central Market. Expect a vibrant display of traditional Japanese artistry in the heart of the island.
  • Friday & Saturday, September 27th-28th at 21:00
    Over the next two days, at the “Angelos Sikelianos” Garden Theatre, attendees will be immersed in Japanese customs and traditions. Highlights include:

    • Meet-and-greet with Samurai warriors, offering a chance for photos and interaction
    • A traditional Japanese tea ceremony
    • An exhibition showcasing exquisite Japanese art
