Sivros is one of the most beautiful villages of Southern Lefkada, built at the base of the mountain of Stavrota and the southern slopes of Elati.
The village is located just 7 kilometers from the well-known seaside village of Vasiliki and has about 450 permanent residents.
The name of Sivros and the settlement is mentioned for many years as it exists in 15th and 16th-century historical documents and means in modern Greek “pigs food”. Surely this is not accidental, because due to the large water quantity of its springs, the plain and the rich vegetation, the village always used to occupy its inhabitants with agriculture and livestock.
As for its natural landscape, we would say that Sivros presents another magnificent version of the mountainous Lefkada.
The springs of the village are many… Some of them run above and some others under the surface. The most popular is Dafni and Antelikos springs on the south of the settlement as well as Kerasia in the northern part of Sivros.
They all impress the visitor with their gurgling water, the huge plane trees and the dense vegetation.
The access to the springs is easy, suitable for children and the trails are ideal for daily hiking and the view of the village towards Vassiliki is excellent.
Don’t forget to visit the Folklore Museum of Sivros and the old Olive Oil Factory and learn more about the village history as well as the traditional occupations.
In terms of everyday life, the village is completely independent as it has its own local supermarket with post office services, bakery and around seven food, coffee and drink points that operate during both winter and summer.
It is no coincidence that many visitors of Sivros coming from all over the world, return back to the village looking for their next permanent residence there! You can visit Lefkada-Rentals realty and check some available properties for sale in the area.
The inhabitants remain authentic, sociable and hospitable. Another optimistic feature is that Sivros is one of the villages with one of the lowest age averages, as even today it has the potential to keep young people in their place.
During the last five years, there is also a slowly growing tourism trend. According to the latest 2021 data, the village can accommodate today around 50 visitors in its guest houses.
